3rd party please –

Not too long ago I tweeted my thoughts on the presidential ‘race’. For all of you that like to give me grief about watching auto/motorcycle racing because, ‘They just keep going ’round in a circle’, guess what – your race is just as circular, seemingly pointless and you only get two choices to cheer or sneer. I get 40 plus AND my races have exciting moments, amazing moves, big crashes, fans (that no one expects to say anything smart) that are entertained and happy to be there.

How has it come to pass that we no longer vote for the best candidate for our views, beliefs and standard but instead, vote against the one we think is furthest (or farthest?)  way from our center? How has the once fabulous idea of democracy boiled itself down to choosing which stink you think you can tolerate best?

Rep or Dem? Who cares! Point fingers at W (which is easy, he is critically stupid) or back to Clinton. Fact is, one guy, the president, is controlled by hundreds of others that are all put in place by the same voters. Theoretically we have the to power, as voters to effect change. Worked great last time eh? YEA! The dems won the majority and didn’t do shit with it.

Bitter, pissed off, and feeling more and more that the once flip phrase, “If voting was effective they would make it illegal” is closer to true than not. I used to think in a capitalist country we should have a really good business person in charge. Hmm – all the good ones seem to know something – that’s why they stay out of if and let lawyers play in that sandbox.

A BILLION dollar campaign? BILLION! WTF is that all about? While everyone is running in circles and getting ready for the next great depression, somehow, some group of peoples has found a way to pump a billion dollars into this freak show.

My 0.02 (and not worth the cost of these pixels anymore)  We need a third party, even a fourth, that is actually interested in accomplishing something more than staying in office. Some one with a goal to get in, effect change, and then get out. Let the next guy/gal in for a shot.

Term limits – yea, i like the idea. I also like that idea the these bastards get paid by the day – only the days they are in the freaking building in DC working. Out campaigning – no pay. Visiting some other country to look good in the press = campaigning. Home to stroll and chat with constituency and hope for kissing-kid photo op = campaigning. Anything that is not in the office, DOING YOUR JOB is campaigning.

I have lost all faith in anyone that wants to be in politics having any clear cut view, unshakable belief or direction and most of all, the integrity to walk away or ignore the money.

We are all worried about our money – or the disappearance of it is more accurate. Psst – did you know we are still in a war? Still have troops occupying and fighting in another country?  Nice how those ugly things get dropped off the pages we read.

OK- I’m done. I will vote because if I do not – I do not deserve to be able to bitch about it. Do I think it will help – not one bit.  I have already chosen who I will write in. I can express, boycott, demonstrate my displeasure that way.

OK – now I am really finished. Have to get ready for work (while I still have work – before I am out on the corner selling pencils) Oh yea, big sale I though I had I found out fell through due to freaking stupidity on part of decision makers. Same types that give money to campaigns. Waste.  Idiocy and waste. Pisses me off.

NOW I am going

Peace, Ant-Knee

By the way – why did people sell pencils during the depression? More to the point, who the heck was buying them and what the hell did they have to write about?

The preceding views are all mine own no matter how convoluted. I’m tired and still approve this message.

  1. It is sad to know that so many people have forgotten what our government was founded on. True the standards they lived by then are not what they are now, but the fundamental truths and principles behind what they started are all but lost. Our government used to be for the people, by the people. Now its by and for those who have the money and power. Rather depressing to think about really. I hope more people see and hear what you have said and understand that if we were all just a little more conscientious our world might not be where it is now.

  2. Oh for heavens sake. Are you really one of those people who is just going to whine that you’re not happy write in someone who has no chance to make any impact? Gee, that’s helpful. the money spent on campaigning is ridiculous I agree, but most of it comes from people who donate to the candidate – so bitch at the them, not the candidates… Are you really going to focus on that as opposed to voting appropriately? I personally believe things CAN change with the right leadership. AND I think we have better options this election than we have in a long time. Neither may be perfect – but who is?? They’ve both made their positions clear on the war AND the economy. The only reason they are mostly talking about the economy now is because that’s what people are most worried about. Don’t blame the candidates! When things turn around – and they will – just know that your wasted vote, your wasted privilege – had nothing whatsoever to do with it. …can you tell this is one of my hot buttons? Hiding your head in the sand because the world isn’t perfect, isn’t going to make it go away. We are lucky to have the opportunity to vote – I don’t plan to waste mine.

Well, yes I can tell this is a hot topic for you. May I reply? Why, thank you!
The money ‘donated’ is begged for and spent by the campaigns.
My vote will not be wasted. I too believe change is possible. I also believe, as stated, that a Strong, Viable, ACTIVE third party will more effectively and quickly bring about true, from the bottom up, inside out, change.
More so than the continual lessor of two evils voting.
By no means am I hiding. I am choosing not to vote Dem or Rep. I am choosing to exercise the privilege to vote as I best see fit. This (that?) is what I consider to be the appropriate use of my vote. A privilege I have never passed up by the way.

  4. “Begged for”? Seriously? They ask for donations for their campaigns, which are freely given and spent accordingly. Again your issue should be with those who donate (and I agaree that their money might be better spent).

As for the rest… There ARE other parties, they just aren’t as popular. I’m sure you have heard of the Independent Party and the Green Party. If you really want to build up a third party system, vote for one of those candidates. But unless your “write-in” is truly more intelligent, more experienced, and more qualified than any other candidate out there AND would accept the job, you are wasting your vote. In my humble opinion. Bottom line, I’m not going to change your mind and you aren’t going to change mine so I guess we should agree to disagree. And really, I should stop reading other people’s blogs, sooner or later they always push a button… or maybe I should just try to get rid of some of my buttons! Hmmm. It’s a thought. 🙂

As a registered independent, I would say I am aware of the other parties. I may even vote for mine.
I still do not feel my vote is wasted. Correct, you will not change my mind. My vote will be applicable to many other things on the ballot. Therefore, not wasted.
Don’t be humble – you are too good for humility – stand up and shout your view!
Buttons are good – keep reading – keep replying. You never know who you will enlighten to the folly of their thinking!
I’ll call you on the 4th to chat about things. (??)
