No, no one has died. Not any one I know. Maybe in your life, I’m sorry if so. Be strong.

Something has died, come to an end, will cease to exist. A place, a group, a refuge, a school and an overall wonderful place. The time has come to say goodbye to The Orange Curtain Theater. A small black box space doing things that no one else in all of South Orange County had the vision or the balls to do.

This wasn’t a place to do “chestnut” theater. The same old same old just to get a same old audience. It was also not a place for gratuitous shock theater. Language and nudity just because you could. Interestingly enough the nude scene in one show I did there was pulled yet I still said fuck about 35 times. Showed the absurdity of the word and the reaction to it. It is just a word folks.

I am sad. Some of the very best work I have ever done has been in that small space. Some of the very best actors, directors and overall humans I have met are involved with that space. I have been educated, nurtured, damaged (emotionally and physically) in that space.  I have active goals in my head about what I wanted to do next there.

I’m a bit lazy and selfish, so the idea of driving 40 to 50 miles one way to work in a place even close to the OCT is not appealing to me.  Sure, there are other theaters. One I can walk to. Done lots of stuff there. May even do more. Revising role in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged this summer, at a very nice theater. But, it is not the same.

With OC real-estate what it is, a new place seems unlikely. That is really the sad part for me. Change is good. Extinction, not so good.

Ruth, Bob, Shelia, Steph – thank you so much for all you did for me and allowed me to do there! I will always be grateful.

Say a prayer or cross your fingers or whatever it is you do, that some day soon The Orange Curtain Theater will be up and running again. South OC needs it. I needs it!

Peace –

Ant-Knee
