Things fall down. People fall over. You fall off the wagon.

Good things happen to people but bad things befall them. Events fall through, fall shot or sometimes fall by the wayside.

Empires have fallen. Stars have fallen from the sky, from their place in the public eye and from favor. Kids fall in with the wrong crowd. Grades fall, test scores fall.

What goes up must come down. The positive is always used for the rise, the negative for the fall.

Fall sees the end of life from spring and ushers in the cold death of winter.

Why then do we fall into love?

    Ha! Good question! Why DO we fall in love? Because we are fools. (thus the song) Interestingly, we also fall out of love. No wonder the whole experience leaves us feeling bruised. Is the initial euphoria worth the resulting wounds? It’s such a transitory emotion. You have to be a little crazy to go there by choice. Why do you think they call it “lovesick?” If I’m going to fall anywhere, it will be into peaceful slumber. That sounds good! (You know I don’t usually read blogs, but I’m glad I bumped into today’s. Ah, the foolish optimism of the human race… or was love created as the only way to keep man from destroying himself and guarantee survival of the species? Fools that we are, we just can’t help ourselves.) …Nicely written, by the way.

    Well now, I had not gone to the fall-out-of part yet. Thank you for the pleasant reminder that this too shall pass. Sleep my friend is over rated! I do not think either that love is transitory or that we actually do fall out of it. No, we simply befriend the sadness and incorporate it into out lives, our humor, our habits and our passions.
    We stay in love forever and only accept that, we are in it alone. I envy and am resentful too of those lucky few that both love each other! How rare and wonderful it is.
