The set from hell!

OK – I have been missing for a while. Well, not missing, I know where I have been. And, I have been there A LOT! Way too much in fact. As in – I’ve been just about living in that freakin’ theater for two weeks!

Here’s the thing – if you know you have a set that is specifically this wide, this deep and this high, why the **** would you choose a show that requires a set of step leading to a second floor? The place is not even the normal eight feet high up stage and THAT is where you want the stairs?

Since the last the of the Oz little people has passed, the pool of performers is limited. Had to cast a tall guy, six plus feet, as one that goes up and down many times too. Yea, that helped.

Now, I must say on my behalf, I did a good job. It has taken me three times the number of hours I can bill for and that SUCKS.

The knucklehead that had control of the shop in the past left all the doors outside and the wet weather has ruined them. So – not only did I have to place four doors, I had to MAKE four door sets. One had to be modified to fit up in the short space with the oh-so convenient 20 degree slope. Yes, that was cool.

So – the show open tomorrow and I am about 90% complete. No set dressing AT ALL yet. Still need to locate an oversize chair, fancy back table and I am sure SOMETHING else is missing.

I am happy with the result so far but man-o-man, this has challenged me and kicked my butt!

Today, yoga at 8am, 90 minute massage at 11am (receiving, not giving) and am mental health appointment at 5:30pm. In between, theater thrashing and a visit from a great friend.

I will post a picture of the complete project tomorrow. If of course, it is complete by then!
