There is something deeply satisfying to me when I take a space and re-arrange everything in it. Even something at basic as flipping the direction of the place – everything to the opposite side. Ready, set, GO!
I often think about movies with the mean drill Sargent making his recruits move a pile of rocks from here to there then, back again. There seems very little sense to it. In fact, there is little sense to it.
Now, my project the past few days was not quite so meaningless, pointless. I am moving all of this from here to thar for a reason. However, the process has been wonderful! I mean, sure, dirty, physical, hard work but, well, I hate to be redundant, SATISFYING!
Being a bit on the OCD side, putting things in place is quite enjoyable. Creating that space just adds to it. Then there is the gratification of seeing the internal vision become an external reality. especially when it works like it did in my head! YEA!
I am not finished just yet. Actually hungry so came home to eat. Estimate that I am 2/3 to 3/4 complete. The tedious last bits are all that remain. The infamous ‘final touches’.
By this time tomorrow there will be a new rehearsal, audition, class space in the theater. The property / set dressing area will be CLEAN AND ORDERLY! Of course that will last about 10 seconds. Already came in find things on the floor. Ugh. Lazy, inconsiderate people suck.
With everything else in my life so horrendously out of my control, speeding along in every direction but the one I would like, it is just so freaking nice to do something and see it work. To be in control. To know that my actions will affect the outcome.
So, I am dirty, sore, tired and not yet finished. So happy about all of it. I hope I can take some of this with me when I go home for the night. To see how ‘things’ are looking. I don’t expect to much to be happy about.
One thing at a time I guess. Take what I can get. Crossing my fingers that by doing something positive and productive, I can harness some of that energy and it will spread into the all the negative dark parts.
A few minutes for some desert, then back I go.
