Before and After Eye Appt.

Quite some time ago (April 08) I wrote about the surprise, concern and confusion that came with the diagnosis of macular degeneration.  The dry kind. That would be the kind that has no approved treatment. Some vitamin combination’s have been tested and are suspected to help slow progression.

I did the daily test, the graph like paper that hung on the refrigerator door. No longer do that. The test was left, right along with ‘fridge but, that is another story. I no longer take the vitamins either. Nor did I make any other appointments to see the doctor, the six month visits she suggested.

Until today.

I have the funding at this time to go get a check up. I have noticed a rather remarkable change in my vision as well as ‘comfort’ of my eyes in the last six months.  I am not looking forward to the information she will have for me.

It has been one week to the day that Winston died. ‘tween then and today I have also been kicked to the curb, replaced by someone more desirable. My mood is not so positive. Part of me does not even see the point of keeping the appointment. What ever is found is not repairable, treatable. Just a new calculation of how far, to what extent the deterioration has progressed.

So – in a few hours I will be there. When I return I will add to this, what ever there is to add. Anything to keep from writing about what really is hurting me today.

3 hours later –

Well, my reading prescription has been kicked by by .25 – whatever that means. My long distance fade is still fading but opted to go one more year before bi-focal lenses.

My left eye has managed to stay pretty unchanged from the MD. Better diet and no longer drinking are both helping.

My right eye however is not so cooperative. Although it is still less affected than to require further testing, it is in fact degenerating quicker than it’s partner. Time. Wait and see what happens next year (not 6 months – yea!).

I did invest in two new pair of reading glasses. Should be nice to have both stronger prescription and NO SCRATCHES!

Going to also look back into the supplements vitamin regime. My doc surprisingly suggested only a few times a week. Not daily or multiple times per day. Curious.

I guess crying is not bad for the eyes after all. I was so hoping to have that excuse for a while. Oh well.
