Fame

A new favourite quote of mine is, the fastest way to get famous is to hit a famous person with a brick.

Now, yes, I do realize there is a line, albeit quite thin on occasion, between notable and notorious, famous and infamous. The brick thing might not have the effect one wants. It worked pretty good for a guy with shoes in Iraq but, I digress.

Then I came across this little gem – about life as a movie. Have you ever had the silly dinner, cocktail conversation, who would play you in a movie about your life? If not,  get some friends, some grog and get to it. Lots of fun.

Well, it can be. Then again you could be the type that would like to actually leave that kind of a mark on the planet. To have done something worthy of celluloid documentation.  To be immortalized, analyzed, creative licensed enhanced and condensed to one hundred minutes, plus or minus. You could finish your wine or whatever, wander off to the bathroom and among all the wonders of that room realize, no one will play you. No one will tell your story. You are average.

This is a good way to ruin a good bottle of wine and also to take notice of how unpleasant most public bathrooms are when you just want to be alone and cry. Do not dare sit on the floor and not much chance of being alone for very long.

I was lucky enough to have spent most of my life wondering not who would play me but when someone was going to get around to letting me play me. I was lucky enough to not have a clear memory of realizing it was not going to happen. Just kinda sunk in after a while.  So be it. Not like it is a failing, there are a bunch of completely average people roaming the globe that no one will ever think twice about. A good many of them are forgotten about even before they die.

But, what if being famous, leaving that mark, making this kind of impression is important? What if that is the ‘thing’ that has been hiding out in the head and motivating? There are some pretty obvious and easy steps to take. Study something and become the very best at doing it. Find something previously unfound. Do something that is seen by the masses.  All these are easy steps to becoming famous.

There are countless numbers of people doing just these things too. Day in and day out, hour after hour of practice and study and effort. Giving up this or that, passing on going here or there, not eating this or that, not saying anything to anyone, not inhaling, not exhaling, just digging in and doing whatever it takes to ‘make it’. Night after night after night before the over-night sensation is famous.

I applaud your efforts, all of you. Good luck Really. I hope you make it to a point that you can live with yourself when it is time to do what everyone else does. Be like everyone else. To blend into the picture as part of the fill, the colour blur in the background. After all, there is only so much canvas and so many points of detail allowed. Fill is important, necessary, for the scene to be complete.

Just thinking is all – about being famous. You can look all this up the way I did. Just put in, how to be famous and enter. I read the instructions on how to write a famous blog. Left me thinking once again, how do people make money doing this?

I have long since parked all efforts to be famous at anything. More work than I guess I was willing to put in.  I hope I can keep from settling for infamous or notorious. You see, I have these bricks in the garage…..
