Life is short –

There are times when someone dies, passes, is taken, whatever you choose to call it, that the event is not a surprise or even considered a bad thing. Long illnesses or catastrophic injury. Extreme number of years. While still saddening to the survivors it is not a surprise or negative. At least, not to me.

Then there are those events that are so unexpected, out of the blue that is stops you in your tacks, takes your breath away and just makes you numb. How the, what the, HUH!?!?! Accidents, although never timely or expected are understandable on some level. Logic says, some people will have accidents and some will end in death.

Then there is the young, healthy bike-riding guy who has a heart attack the morning after huge family reunion. It is hard to reconcile these kinds of things. Sure, we all know that everyone will die. We all know someone that has and we all know we will too. Knowing just does not change or lessen the shock, the sadness the bewilderment.

A second ‘reunion’ will occur now. I will attend this one, see people I have not seen in a long time, meet people I have not. Recall someone with them, to them and from them. Try to understand it all.

Peace my friend, until we meet again. I know we will because you were there to teach and guide and share with me.

  1. Was it Betty – my mother’s “maid of honor”? I’m just asking.
