The end of the show –

This is always a strange time. The last evening of a run. When I get cast in a show it is usually something to be excited about. Then rehearsals start and the work begins. It is still fun and enjoyable for the most part but it is work, paid or not.

Then, it becomes a bit tedious and obviously redundant. Keeping the energy and enthusiasm up can be a chore. Until preview night and then opening night. Now, the energy is maybe to high along with some excess enthusiasm. Depending on the audience. True enough, a quite, dead audience sucks the energy right out a cast. We try hard not to let you do it but, it still effects.

Then comes closing week. Once again, redundant and time to move one. We do out best and it has by now become much easier. What is harder is, once again, energy. Especially to a dead house.

So we walk into closing happy that it is over but also sad to see it end. The camaraderie and back stage laughs. The serious chats, the art talks, the dreams and ambitions, jokes and stories. It would surprise some to know what happens just a few feet away from the stage.

That is the odd part of it. The double edge, so happy to be at the sad part.

Elvis has left the building.

Peace, Ant-Knee
