Now, that was interesting!

This is how “one of those things” happened. How I was reminded again of the difference between luck, chance, fortune and an active God in my life. This is one of the type of things that happen often enough that if made me reevaluate, investigate and to realize where and why I had slipped away as well as why I have made the choice to slip back.

Rambling attempt to share events

Saturday I was asked about my religious beliefs. I said, “I am a Christian. I worship at a Presbyterian Church”. The reply was simple, not meant to be mean or confrontational, “I believe in God but, religion is a man made thing.” Hmm. Now what do I say?

Yesterday I was reading the blog of my best friend. One of the smartest, most well read, educated people I know. He is also a non believer. On his blog page there is a side bar that shows “what’s on my book shelf”. This title grabbed me, The Politics of Man, the Politics of God by Jacques Ellu. While looking into that I was exposed to the work Apologetics. Exactly what I needed. So, I order a book.

Then, this morning I read this http://www.usatoday.com/news/religion/2008-01-09-unchurched-survey_N.htm?csp=34 I could not resist sharing it with Pastor Tod. I also asked in that email for a recommendation on a book, on apologetics. Already have one on the way but more than one view is always best for me. He suggested, The Case for Faith by Lee Stobel. Thank you Tod.

Now, so far kinda dull story and easy to say, coincidence, the question, the article, the recommendation. Fortune cookie stuff again.

Later, I head off to (un-named coffee shop) to study dialogue of new play. Too comfortable at home, can’t concentrate. Grab a big Mocha, climb into the corner of a leather sofa and lean back. Across from me is a guy with a book. *The Apologetics Study Bible. Hmm. Now that’s interesting. I immediately strike up a conversation. Tell him my dull story and how it just got a bit more interesting. He tells me about being a teacher in a Christian school, apologetics is his course. He asked for my contact info because, (I like this part a lot) Lee Stobel is coming to his school to give a talk in a few months and he would like to invite me. Hmm. Now that’s interesting.

He goes back to book, I go back to script. A few minutes later he asked me where I go to church. I tell him and he smiles. He gave a talk at my church about The Da Vinci Code. I met him that night and he remembered it. A year or so ago as I recall. Hmm. Now that’s interesting.

I had a heck of time trying to get into my studying. (It showed at rehearsal too!) I had a hard time not running around telling anyone and everyone around me. I had a hard time believing it too. Just one of those amazing things. One of those daily things that remind. How could I not believe?

It’s late and I need to study or this would have been much longer with detail. I just could not, not tell someone anymore. Had to get it out.

What an interesting day.

Peace,
Ant-Knee

  1. I am happy and sad at the same time. I know that these things were meant to happen for a reason, and obviously God stepped in and placed you in the right placed at the right time. However I read the link and I am sad to think that so many find Christians the problem with Christianity. And yet in a way I can not blame them, for we are as flawed as the next person. I believe in some ways that Christians think of God as there “Golden Ticket” so to speak. To live a life that they choose, in the name of God, but thinking lower of those who do not believe as they do. I have seen it first hand, but I have also see the flip side of the coin. New trials in life have brought about new experiences with my Christian friends. Rather unnerving. All I can say is I do not believe in coincidence.
