Another gift, given and recieved.

As some of you know I have one (actually a few) of those Online Ordination certificates. The first was not online in fact. I was old school US Postal Service.  For better or for worse, it has allowed me to perform weddings in the capacity of, Officiate.  I must admit the majority of my interest in this activity has been financial. Weddings are big business. High dollar no matter how low end an event.

Recently the meaning and intention of these events has changed for me. However, that does not mean it has changed for every0ne. It is still, for the most part, a civil, legal thing. That is how (or is that why?) someone like me gets to be there.  Usually not a lot of time, not much pressure, great money and almost always, food too.

Then there are the special days. The couple that are friends, good friends that tell you there was never any question who would be doing the wedding. Once in a while I have to think it is because I do not charge my close friends for my help. (I still eat) Other times I actually believe that to them, my being there is an added part of an already awesome day.

Yesterday was unique. It was one of only a few, very few, that, my being there was a gift for me. There is always a feeling of honor and of privilege (hope I am using that word correctly there) when you are doing the wedding. Even if it were for a couple of complete strangers, there is no way to ignore the importance of it all, and that you are part of it. But, when you are there, up front, dead center, with two truly great friends, two wonderful people, a couple that make the whole thing of marriage make sense again, all you can do is say thank you. Thank you for allowing me to be here, right here to see you look at each other, to hear your quite words, see your eyes glisten, the hints of smiles, the sound of your breathing a bit faster and deeper as the rings appear.  Thank you for reminding me that love does exist between men and women.

I know these folks could have chosen anyone. It was not about money or schedule or belief. So very cool. It was like a quick little conversation between the three of us and a group of well dressed eaves-droppers.

What a treat, what a fantastic gift from them to me, on their wedding day! Good food too. Really a top notch day I have to say. Here’s to you guys – keep the promises, live the vows, show everyone how it’s done.

Peace –

Ant-Knee
